Baby fingers. Baby toes. Baby eyes. Baby nose.
M&Ms. Grain of sand, sugar, salt.
Of all the small things in the world, these are the ones that came to mind.
Having been present at seven births in the past fourteen months, I realize how small I am. I took my daughter to a high school orientation last year and looked around the room at the incoming class of freshmen. How many kids were in that room? How many rooms just like that are there all over this country? The world? How many kids are sitting in all those rooms? Each one of those freshmen were born about the same time as my daughter. They are only one small segment of the population. There are kindergarteners, fifth graders, seniors. There are one month olds and six month olds. How small is my world? It is mind boggling. To think of all those moms who brought all those people into the world. Amazing.
